Welcome Patrick, plus our latest work

Andre Templeman

I'm very glad to welcome Patrick Birt to Alpha Inception as Partner, Project Delivery & Operations Excellence.

Patrick brings 25+ years delivering capital, facilities and infrastructure projects. He spent 11 years in five management roles at Suncor Energy, most recently leading the Suncor–Syncrude engineering integration program, with $200M in approval authority over an annual project budget of about $150M and more than $50M in maintenance savings across 3M+ sq. ft. of facilities. During the 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire he ran operations in Suncor's Emergency Operations Centre and coordinated the airlift of more than 10,000 people.

For 14 years Alpha Inception has worked on the market side of energy and carbon: PPA and asset valuations, hedge structuring and carbon markets. Patrick adds the delivery side. Together we cover both halves of an energy-transition decision: the economics that make a project pay, and the execution that gets it built and keeps it running.

A few other things we've been working on:
• Canada: with Patrick in Calgary, we've added Alberta's TIER, the federal output-based system and Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations to our market coverage.
• AI policy: we've published a draft response to California Executive Order N-9-26 on frontier AI models. Comments are open until 10 November, before we plan to file with the state.
• AI in our own work: for the past two years we've brought AI into every part of our business, building our own tools and agents, and we've filed 39 U.S. patent applications over the past year, mostly in AI, with a 40th to be filed this month.
